Bargaining Update
April 24, 2017

The GGEA and GGUSD bargaining teams met to bargain a contract for 2017-18 on seven dates:  April 20 and 27, May 4, 9, and 26, and June 8 and 13.

An MOU was signed on class-size for TK-3:

  • 25:1 in 2017-2018
  • 24.5:1 in 2018-19
  • 24:1 in 2019-20

In 2016-17, the staffing ratio for TK-3 was 25.5:1

All of the staffing ratios for TK-3 are school-wide as per the state's Grade Span Adjustment (GSA) guidelines.

The newest member of our team is David Cho, a mathematics teacher at Bolsa Grande HS. David comes to us after having served on the Bargaining Committee which supports the Bargaining Team by conducting the annual bargaining survey and researching items that are useful to the team. David and all other members of your bargaining team attended the Coordinated Bargaining Unit meeting on May 30 at the local CTA office in Orange to learn about aspects of the governor's proposed budget which will be finalized this month.

Your bargaining team has the district's 2017-18 adopted budget. We will compare this budget with the unaudited actuals (a picture in time of actual money spent) which we expect to receive in September 2017. These documents will be analyzed in light of the state budget.

The district withdrew its proposal on dress code because it is addressed in GGUSD Board Policy.

In addition, both teams have continued to use the Interest-Based-Bargaining (IBB) model to address hours of employment, including release days. We explored the possibility of a new article: working conditions.

Future bargaining dates are September 21 and 28, October 6, 13, and 26, and November 3 and 15.

Your fellow teachers on the bargaining team are David Cho (Bolsa Grande HS), Lucy Farmer (Peters K-3), Bridget Holdermann (McGarvin), Dante Urzua (K-12 TOSA ,Parent and Community Outreach) and Tamra Wood (Post). The executive director, Armon Akerboom, assists in negotiations.
